## Describe the stage and model

Explain whether the business is bootstrapped, investor-backed, profitable, acquiring companies, or preparing to raise capital. Describe subscription, usage, services, and other revenue streams. Include where the team works and where the company has operations.

Ask which stage of software business the assigned professionals serve. A firm familiar with an early startup may need different resources for a profitable founder-owned company, and vice versa. Match the engagement to the next decisions.

## Coordinate with the finance stack

Give the candidate a picture of your accounting, billing, payroll, and equity-record systems. Ask what information it needs from each and whether your current reporting package is sufficient.

Clarify the relationship between tax advice and financial reporting. Investor reporting, valuation, equity administration, and tax compliance may involve separate professionals and scopes. A good lead should explain those boundaries and coordinate where necessary.

- Ask who communicates with transaction counsel.
- Identify the owner of equity and financing records.
- Confirm coverage for remote employees and overseas activity.

## Evaluate specialty claims carefully

If a provider markets specialized studies or incentives, ask who performs the analysis, what records support it, and how the review is documented. Do not choose solely because the website names an attractive opportunity.

Request a workflow for evaluating whether a specialty project is appropriate before committing to its full cost. Ask about outside-provider compensation and who reviews the resulting work. Keep the decision connected to the facts of your company.

## Choose for changes ahead

Use a likely event, such as a funding round, acquisition, or expansion, as an interview case. Ask how the firm would scope the work, coordinate with other advisers, and update the ongoing engagement afterward.

The right software tax firm can explain how it handles changing records and ownership without blurring responsibilities. Choose a service model that supports the business stage you are approaching.

- Next step: give candidates a revenue model summary and a twelve-month financing calendar.
