## Define the work before comparing firms.

Compare the work and support period rather than only the payment schedule. Ask each candidate to show deliverables, meeting cadence, implementation responsibility, exclusions, and the complete project cost.

## Why the operating context matters.

For real estate brokerages, the brief needs to explain commission collections, teams, and owner production. Separate the owner’s selling activity from brokerage management when describing the business.

Use that context to request a like-for-like advisory proposal comparison. Identify the decision still open, the date it becomes binding, and which existing advisors are already responsible for part of the work.

## Prepare a decision-ready record list.

- Commission statements
- Team contracts
- Owner role summary
- Written proposals
- Expected support needs
- Fee schedules

Mark each item as available, incomplete, or held by another professional. Ask the candidate what it needs before quoting or performing analysis. A record gap should become an assigned task with a deadline, rather than an assumption that the information is complete.

## Interview the person who would do the work.

- How will agent and team arrangements be reflected in the engagement?
- What is delivered during the support period?
- Which work requires another fee?
- What happens when new questions arise later?
- Which information is missing, and who will obtain it?
- What are the complete fees, exclusions, and support dates for this work?

## What a useful proposal should settle.

Request a named professional, the records reviewed, a defined output, implementation assignments, support dates, and the complete fee. Ask which work requires a separate engagement with a preparer, attorney, administrator, or specialist. Match every important deadline to a responsible person.

Compare the answer with the work you actually need. An impressive firm name or a broad service description cannot settle scope. If the proposal is unclear, record the open question and ask for clarification before engaging.

### Owner compensation review

The owner’s work, pay arrangements, and cash needs should be described before a provider proposes compensation-related work. Ask how the analysis will be documented and coordinated with payroll rather than requesting a number in isolation.Prepare the scope ↗](https://taxstrategistdirectory.com/hiring/real-estate-brokerages/owner-compensation-review/)[Advisor hiring brief

### First owner payroll handoff

Start with a complete entity map and the commercial reason for the proposed change.
